The tricolor we hoisted - and why my eyes moistened

dear Bijaya Ghosh,
Well, honestly it did make me a little proud: what usually was a sparsely atended listeless programme - turned vibrant and joyous for all who came. The others who missed it felt quite upset and have decided henceforth to atend all ceremonies in the college.

No wonder we venerate cows

dear ShobanaSundar, Ive tried it all- in the final run, it is the cowdung cake's noxious fumes that seemed to work best. The habit of using this as fuel source is mostly restricted to Tamilanadu regards, ixedoc PS: will get back with a reply to your note

dear ushasuryamani, yes, the delight, the running to stand in the asembly, the gusto with which we sang the anthem...all so lovely. The memories stay, refreshed each year...as we watch today's kids scampering to the flag pole. I have much hope for the country...the young are hungry for more and will take India forwards regards, ixedoc

Thumbing a ride

dear ushasuryamani, I am amazed at how many have commented on the thumb dent on north pole of the curdrice palm held bolus - obviously the system is far more prevalent in joint families than I had assumed. Glad the lines brought back pleasant memories in you of the happy days of childhood.. regards, ixedoc

dear binumuscat,

life is thus my friend, in India too. Whatever be the terrorist agenda, this country goes on and on, fighting back - no one can stop a mentally fired killer to desist from hurting the innocent.
Man has not evolved, he has returned to jungle law - but, Independance Day celebrations is all about reaffirming our faith in fairplay and justice. As long we remain united, no one can cow us - no one, ever

dear blizzard, Somehow, ceremonial events -parades, marches, bands - all suddenly become boring and routine as we grow up - but the essence of childhod I feel should be retained even as we grow older, for in feeling young, one actually feels young regards, ixedoc

dear Ramesh_007,
Loks like this phenomenon is far more common than I thought - and extends beyond the quadrangles of academic institutions. Ther is little one can do in this area - unless the absentees introspect and decide to attend and be atentive, nothing will change

dear AramBhusal,
Well done friend, it is the spirit that counts, not numbers...not for nothing was the evocative song ' ekla chalo'.....the Mahatma's favorite
