I loved the green-feathered fellow. He had spirit and enjoyed himself. But, his confinenment within a cage caused me, and him, much anguish... Expand

Dear Charuavi,

Thanks for the input. Yes, true the bird releaser is sure guilty of misusing his friend's hospitality - but yet, was what he did, criminal? If at all, Des and his folks by confing a free bird had contravened national wildlife act ( and CITES)

Caging and displaying parrots and parakeets is illegal and punishable by a fine and up to five years in prison. As for Pirate, dogs as you well know, are commensals of man, and his being chained was a but short term punitive reaction from Des.

However, as you pointed out, the tale is creative;  but most of my stories, including this one, are inspired by  real life incidents involving me or my close friends.

This piece appears in 'creative', so I take it for granted that it is fiction.

I have read other comments, so I am a bit apprehensive about raising my lone voice of dissent. However, I am a free spirit, as free as the bird that said kank kyu.

I just wonder what justification the character in this story has for setting free a parakeet that did NOT belong to him and thus abusing the hospitality of his friend, whom it belonged.

I also wonder why he did not set the dog Pirate also free.

I am sorry if I have hurt other people's feelings by asking these questions.

Enjoyed the blog, and your comment....How true, one day of freedom is better than a lifetime of imprisonment.

A  Vegggie Doktura gets Skank Kyu u from all animals on Noahs Ark

Dog goes wow wow bow wow, kitty goes meow
Pussies meewww all night long
The milk cow, she goes moo
Chicken goes cluck and the duck goes quack
Am told certain docs can also be quacks to
And the rooster goes cock-a-doodle-doo
The pig is fat and the snail is slow
And the donkey sure is dumb
As long as Christ rode the ass
It saved his sole, but he died
for yr sins..
The lion is brave and the bear is strong
And the snake sticks out his tongue

Fish in the air and birds in the water
And the earthworm underground
Clams in the shell, ants on the hill,
Horses on the merry-go-round
Big as a whale, crazy like a fox,
Lazy as a three-toed sloth
Beavers making dams and bees making honey
And a caterpillar matures up to a moth

With a monkey on my back and a tiger in my tank
And a frog down in my throat
Wearing alligator shoes getting filles to fall
at me feet and a turtleneck sweater
And a full-length camel-hair coat
In a snakeskin suit drinking bird's nest soup
Rabbit's foot for a lucky charm
Coo-coo-c-choo, I'm a walking zoo
Reading Orwell's "Animal Farm"

Oh Dog goes wow wow bow wow, kitty goes meow
Pussies meewww all night long
Mooing and Cooing silky
and stealthily sking
The milk cow, she goes moo
Chicken goes cluck and the duck goes quack
Am told certain docs can also be quacks to
And the rooster goes cock-a-doodle-doo
The pig is fat and the snail is slow
And the donkey sure is dumb
As long as Christ rode the ass
It saved his sole, but he died
for yr sins..
The lion is brave and the bear is strong

Dear Kamalji sir,
thankyou for the comment. It is true that most caged birds, once free, usually cannot forage for themselves - yet parakeets (parrots) which are widely resident all over India, have an amazing capacity to survive even after years of confinement. They live long, for even five decades or more - and have resilience to tide over adjustment blues. They are communal birds and stick to each other in flocks.
Anyway, even assuming a released bird does not survive long - what is better sir, a lifetime of imprisonment or one day of freedom? Ask the birds and they will chorus, just let us go - its better to die after a single day's  freedom than pine for it in a cage for decades
regards, ixedoc

Kank-kyu..doc..that must have felt so good...I agree that it's cruel to keep aimals in cage, I don't knwo who invented teh concept of Zoo...or may be since forests are soon fading..animals have to live in a zoo so that they can escape atrocities on them by humans.
