dear ushasuryamani,
both were wrong ma'am. the dogs shouldnt have ripped the sandals - they have been trained to stay off, and each time they disobey it sets me back a few hundreds - and what the maid did, was, as you said, once again prove, that trust should be a sparse commodity.

What the dogs did to her sandals was fine. But what she did was betrayal...Sigh...Why are people so base !!!

dear d_w,
Well, I am not the only sucker here sir, you too may recollect, lost a tidy wad of money when you stayed over at a relatives place: Who? Why? Where? are questions that crop up in our minds only when something we treasure or value goes missing. Thats life. By the way, Foster aside,  too had once authored a book, titled 'Footnotes' though for me the title was a play on spoors, pug marks and paw prints - a book on birds and animals around cities.

and love to junior and mum

Ixeee,

You Good Samaritan! Trust is always a problem with you, isnt it?

Btw speaking of foot notes....you should read David Foster Wallace...the master of foot-notes!

dear arian,
yes, she could have been more careful...but, we all know women and how excited they get for showing things to others, specially other women, more especially when it is jewellery: so Lakshmi learns, by paying the price. We all learn too..that trust is more often than not, betrayed by those whom we trust

Doc,

Rs.150 for 4 happy dogs is a cheap price to pay.... but the missing ear rings ..is hard to swallow... but then lakshmi should have been more careful in putting them away. A lesson well learnt. Sigh!!!

IN my office too people take advance and then disappear ... this does put into jeopardy the basic trust that we would like to place in others.

dear ashualec,
there is no dearth of Imelda clones....footwear has a strange hold over some...
About people who take advantage, being cautious is one thing, being too trusting is quite another.
will try to post a dog snap sometime
